On July 17, the Orange County Bruins in association with the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television hosted its first screening of award winning films created by up-and-coming UCLA filmmakers.

Approximately 80 Orange County Alumni ranging from the class of '34 to '01 attended the event. These art patrons feasted over wine and hors d'oeuvres before being treated to five award-winning short films. These films covered the spectrum of film media from Edward Gorey-inspired animation to live-action drama. The films presented were as follows:

  • "In My Secrecy" by Jonathan Wald
  • "The Hangnail" by Shane Acker M.Arch. '98
  • "The Ride Home" by Grace Lee
  • "The Bad Plant" by Amy Winfrey '97, M.F.A. '00
  • "The Confession" by Carl Pfirman M.F.A. '00

These films have been presented at several film festivals around the film festival circuit. In fact, several of these filmmakers have been awarded prestigious positions within the film industry, including a screenwriter in residence with 20th Century Fox.

The Orange County Bruins would like to thank its sister campus, UC Irvine, for hosting the festivities. The Orange County Bruins and the Alumni Association are looking forward to another year of great films and great art.
